The Strachur and District History Society was formed in Spring 2007 on initiative of a group of local people who would like to see the history of their area preserved and shared. The area covered by the Society’s interest lies within the parish of Strachur and Strathlachlan in the county of Argyll and Bute. It also contains the communities of Glenbranter, Newton and St. Catherines.
The Society has as its three main aims
1. to seek out, record and conserve matters relating to local history, including archival material, photographs and other images, and written and oral memories
2. to co-ordinate and collate this material and make it available to the general public
3. to stimulate interest among residents and others (in particular young people) to assist in and contribute the aims
The Society welcomes all people interested in its work as members, locally, nationally and internationally. A membership application form will be available from this site shortly.
